Save My Soul

Looking back awhile, a few months gone, I think I brought this on myself
Went and got into it, pulled the volumes off the shelf
Tore the place, breaking what I couldn't sell
Till this home was stripped and I swore I'd never tell
Of my ways, so I started to run

Began to hear a voice on the side of the road
I think she saw the evil in me
Said, "Take what you need and don't look back, no matter what you think you see"
"Wherever you land will have you trapped, you'll never find no sense of relief"
"By the time you get out from wherever you are, the fresh air won't taste too sweet"

She asked, "Who went and put this hate in your heart?"
I said, "I believe in nature over nurture"
"And if I ain't wrong then it's probably been there from the start"

No one's gonna save my soul
And I won't run when it's my time to go

I think I lost my edge deep in the mountains, I just stopped seeing red
Slowed to a crawl, feeling solitary, but I suppose I made my bed
No longer a runner, blue in the face
It may be time to find my place
But what's done is done, I left quite the trail

No one's gonna save my soul
And I won't run when it's my time to go

No one's gonna save my soul
And I won't run when it's my time to go
