The Monster Song

Every night, I cannot fall asleep
Just waiting for the monsters to come
I know there's one under my bed
It creeps out and then it creeps me out

I say, "Monster, Monster!
Wherever you are!
Don't you even think about eating me tonight!
If you do, I promise you, you'll be sorry!
I don't know what'll happen
But it'll be bad
I'll probably have to have a talk with your mom and dad

Yeah!
I don't think you want that
Now do you?"

And below me
I hear a small voice
Quietly, carefully saying these words:

"Hello up there
Can you hear me?
I'm the monster living under your bed
I just want a home
And a pillow of my own
And I'd like to see the pictures in those picture books you read

I know
I'm odd
And semi-aquatic
I know that my claws are too sharp
But if you just hold my flippers
And hand me a pair of nail clippers
I can show you I have heart

I just wanna be your friend
Please let me be your friend"

Well I say, "Monster, Monster
I'd love to be your friend
I've always wanted a buddy who can eat my enemies!
Not to mention you have 38 eyes
Which is 36 more than I currently have

We can sneak downstairs and take all the cushions
Sitting on the sofa that dad spilled his coffee on
And I promise I will always bring you some food from dinner
Especially when we have squash"

And still at night, I can't fall asleep
Because we're always busy talkin' 'bout tomorrow's adventures
And now I have the best friend in the world
All from the time my monster spoke up and said:

"Hello up there
Can you hear me?
I'm the monster living under your bed
I just want a home
And a pillow of my own
And I'd like to see the pictures in those picture books you read

I know (I know)
I'm odd (I'm odd)
And semi-aquatic (And sometimes)
I know that my claws are too sharp (Other kids don't understand)
But if you just hold my flippers (The way I act)
And hand me a pair of nail clippers (But I know I have a friend in you)
I can show you I have heart" (I can feel it in your heart)

I'm so happy you're my friend
I love you my friend
