Once I said "I wanna be a mechanic"
But the engine broke and I started to panic
I said "I wanna be a race car driver"
But I just wasn't that much of a fighter

I said I wanna be a painter in Montmartre
Or a philosopher like Nietzsche or Sartre
So, I bought a flight ticket to France
But I lost the plane and lost my chance

I wanted to be an astronaut to see the stars
But (I found out) it wasn't enough to heal my scars
Then I just wanted to run away and cut loose
But I stopped in L.A. and lived as a recluse

Then I said I wanna look for a job and live in California
But I met a girl and got lost somewhere in Georgia
Then someone suspiciously stole my lighter
And that made me wanna be a crime novel writer

I just wanna be an indie rock star

So, I tried to write a book about an inspector
But it turned out I wanted to be an inventor
I sat down to think and make a good plan
And I dreamed about the lighthouse watchman

Then I thought what If I were Harry Potter
But I only found a job as personal shopper
I saved money and bought a brand-new car
Then drove to London to be an indie rock star
