Path of the Beam

Blind to the beam, I feel so slow
Like I'm running through waist-deep water
So I push to find my speed again
Life continually adds complication
Distractions that tear me from my singularity
And the shades are slowly drawn around me

But once in a while
A sliver of clarity knifes in through the haze
And that beam of light shines ahead

The moment of clarity is easily identified
But the loss of clarity happens slowly over time
That fleeting moment is the only reminder of the fact
That you were lost, for a while unidentified
Groping through the dark
Reaching for the path of the beam again

Transmission slips into neutral as life races on by me
Days exponentially pass
The pace in my mind feels no different than before but
The world around me is keeping its own score

So I fight for my light, to define the path again
Although I start in that direction who knows where I may end

For the path of the beam may be strong and true
But the world around me is committed to blocking my view
