The Freshman

I was older than you
I was older and you noticed
You were the straight-laced addict
Caught in your head's straight-jacket
And the lights couldn't wet the appetite
That expands and then ignites
On a demand to excite
And elaborate on the state
Where the poet in you always says you're right

You have never known
The silence of the show
Until cord gets pulled and punctuation drifts
Along the written road of books
You failed to pick up
And I will not open up these texts this way again
I will not open up again
