The Milkshake
It was raining so I wanted a milkshake
From a nice local place
I got into the diner at around seven o'clock
My other foot was barely in the door
When I saw the prettiest girl I ever seen
Standing over by the jukebox machine
She was flipping through the tracks and chewing on bubblegum
I could tell I was gonna be under her thumb
I couldn't think of anything good to say
So I got a table close by and ordered a milkshake
Eventually I got the courage to walk up to the jukebox
But it was almost like my mouth forgot how to talk
She glanced up at me with those pretty eyes
I was probably staring but who'd be surprised
I saw what she was flipping through
And I didn't know what to do, so
I asked if she liked the Rolling Stones
She said, "I suppose, but could you leave me alone?"
I apologized and went back to my milkshake and fries
I guess I was satisfied with the fact that I tried
I was about to leave when a sleazy looking guy came out the bathroom
He put his arm around the girl and said, "you wanna leave soon?"
She shook her head and said, "I like it here"
And then he whispered something in her ear
She giggled, and then they both were gone
I sighed and put my coat back on
I figured you couldn't always win
So I headed out into the rain again
That's when I realized something:
I hadn't come for the girl; I came for the milkshake
From a nice local place
I got into the diner at around seven o'clock
My other foot was barely in the door
When I saw the prettiest girl I ever seen
Standing over by the jukebox machine
She was flipping through the tracks and chewing on bubblegum
I could tell I was gonna be under her thumb
I couldn't think of anything good to say
So I got a table close by and ordered a milkshake
Eventually I got the courage to walk up to the jukebox
But it was almost like my mouth forgot how to talk
She glanced up at me with those pretty eyes
I was probably staring but who'd be surprised

And I didn't know what to do, so

I hadn't come for the girl; I came for the milkshake
