Pick Me Up

Why can't I seem to put down this pick me up?
One would think that maybe I had had enough
It's just something to look forward to when I'm down on my luck
I just can't seem to put down this pick me up

I wake up and I dream of six o'clock
Ain't no sense in driving when I'll have to walk
To a job I love to hate
But my barkeep appreciates
When I ask her for a double on my rocks

Why can't I seem to put down this pick me up?
One would think that maybe I had had enough
It's just something to look forward to when I'm down on my luck
I just can't seem to put down this pick me up

I can almost smell the good of Friday night
When they roll one up and offer me a light
Well, I hate to be so blunt, but it's the only thing I want
To just kick back and leave the week behind

Why can't I seem to put down this pick me up?
One would think that maybe I had had enough
It's just something to look forward to when I'm down on my luck
I just can't seem to put down this pick me up
I just can't seem to put down this pick me up
No, I just can't seem to put down this pick me up
