When the Poetry Ran Through Me
I need to hear a vocalist agree
Let vague lyrics fight my mental battles for me
Because these songs don't work the same
I listened to them too much, their impact began to fade
I used to play with friends in unison
But now I just imagine instruments inside my head
She never cared about the poetry I wrote
She never asked "Why do you sing such sad songs? Who's Nicole?"
I am moving the mountains much closer to you
So you don't have to work hard for comfort and views
It's a lesson I learned when I was growing up
If you're happy, I'm happy, and that is enough
Let vague lyrics fight my mental battles for me
Because these songs don't work the same
I listened to them too much, their impact began to fade
I used to play with friends in unison
But now I just imagine instruments inside my head
She never cared about the poetry I wrote
She never asked "Why do you sing such sad songs? Who's Nicole?"
I am moving the mountains much closer to you
So you don't have to work hard for comfort and views
It's a lesson I learned when I was growing up
If you're happy, I'm happy, and that is enough
