The Hourglass

I pulled your name out of a hat
Flipped the hourglass and patiently waited
I drew a picture of your face in my brain
I wonder if you did the same for me

The time crept up on us so fast
Before I knew it I was seconds away
And as we awkwardly shook hands
I realised that you looked
Nothing like I had expected you to

I was scared, afraid to let you in
Terrified of you seeing me
For who I really am

But that was just the start of our story

As we walked from the station
Floating carefree and weightless
I'll remember that moment
For the rest of my life
I barely closed my eyes and it was over
But still it echoes

Passed the old abandoned house next door
You introduced me to my home away from home
And on a postcard I would write,
"I'm not alone anymore!"
In the evening I would fall so hard
Head over heels
I was scared, afraid to let you in
Terrified of you

But that was just the start of our story

As we walked from the station
Floating carefree and weightless
I'll remember that moment
For the rest of my life
I barely closed my eyes and it was over
I never thought that I would have to find you

As we walked from the station
Floating carefree and weightless
I'll remember that moment
Until the day that I die
I barely closed my eyes and it was over
But still it echoes
