Way Up North

Last winter I worked as a delivery rider
Through fancy stairwells and slushy streets
One day I fell and my bike got broke
Reparations cost me a two days pay

I saw takeaway people and paper cup beggars
Downtown where all the tram tracks meet
And I thought to myself while stuck in the middle
That maybe the tables will turn one day

Night is long
Day is short
In the wintertime
Way up North, Way up North
There's no night
Only day
In the summertime
Way up North, Way up North

This summer i work at the west cemetery
God knows, daytime it's a peaceful place
But I know I'm soon unemployed again
As soon as the green stops to grow

This winter I'll go busking with my uncles guitar
Let my voice tremble in the morning haze
And if I get broke I guess I call my Ma
Or my friend Hardstrikin' Romeo

Night is long
Day is short
In the wintertime
Way up North, Way up North
There's no night
Only day
In the summertime
Way up North, Way up North

Little London, little London
Can you hear me calling?
