The Letters of Her Name

My body's ill
All has been fading
Rest assured, I fade along
Love cannot heal me
I've never been that strong
End that is nearing
Sing to me her song

Memories sent me
Away to long passed times
Recall her complexion and can't help but
Linger on every line
I only saw danger in letting myself go
Every time I was tempted
So I kept saying no

Mere reason kept me safe throughout my life
And affection then appeared a waste of time
Real life was kept at bay, and out of reach
Like I had chosen to advise a younger me
It took a life time to
Explore those unsailed seas
So by the time that she got 'round to me, I had sunk

My body's ill
And this time it's lethal
Rapid decline is all for now
Love was external
In others' lives at best
Either a plague on my brain or a
Strain on my untouched chest

Mortal soul led astray from her embrace
Awoken by her touch, smitten by her face
Remembered nothing of the physical restraints
Left the body to be free and out of pain
I'll keep writing all the same
Every letter of her
Soothing name
