Tax Gods

It always happens this time every year
I get a lump in my throat, I feel a twinge of fear
It's not because my love has been untrue
It's just that the taxes are due

I try to get the numbers to add up
I use Excel worksheet, and insert function sum
But something's not right, these totals are all wrong
I had to wipe the tears from my face and write this song

I need help from the tax gods
I need someone to show me the way out of this fiscal fog
I lay my offerings upon their shrine
'Cause it's April 14, pushing midnight, and I'm running out of time

These figures to me just don't make any sense
I'm down with my civic duty but 1040EZ makes me tense
I guess next year I'll try Turbo Tax
Take a deep breath, have a drink, and try to relax

I need help from the tax gods
I need someone to show me the way out of this fiscal fog
I lay my offerings upon their shrine
'Cause it's April 14, pushing midnight, and I'm running out of time
