Giants

A hundred pages but
Everything's been crossed out
So i can't write

With every ship that's passed
An empty deck unsteered
So I won't try

'Cause we were giants once
We've been losing our height
And that's alright

Got lost in the wash of the sea
Trampling
And it spits when it speaks
Says if I stay still I'll just freeze
So forgive me for the damage I breathe

Shear the tops of mountains off
And climb to somewhere past the trees
To find flat land with crowds for miles
And tell ourselves we reached the peak

And now nothing can be found
That hasn't been written down
I saw the answers on a page
When I reach down it blows away

Flipping page to page
For sentences that fill some empty space
A phrase that clicks and flips a switch I made
But never found again

Flipping page to page
Just trying to read some words that I erased
There's still a couple left that I can make out, but don't know what i meant

Flipping page to page
To find something I circled as a kid
And never read again just mourned the waste
Of all the ink I spent

But we were giants once
Folded ourselves up to shove into ship beds
Catching the wind in a sheet
Hoping for speed that we just couldn't reach

Atop a dying dream
Lost in the wash of the sea, we got crossed out
