Coffee Spoons

Emma she smiles, she asks if I am done
I tell her dear sweetheart, I've a few more crumbs
She laughs and then leaves me, to my own device
Here at this diner, on Friday night

Looking down into the bottom of another cup
Plain to see the last drop has dried up
All the laughter, coming from another room
As I measure my life, in coffee spoons

Many moons and many miles, long ago & far away
I kissed her in the corner of a west village cafe
Our hearts were racing, we couldn't get enough
But this bitterness I'm tasting, is all that is left

I say goodbye to Emma, & I leave her a tip
She's so damn pretty, if I could have one more sip
But my cup's as empty, as my wallet is full
What once was a knife's edge, is now just pointless and dull
