Nobody Likes John ("Everybody Loves John" Reprise)

Ooh, oh yeah

Spring and summer of 1842
Hyrum Smith had gained some insight
About the mayor, and everything else he was
John C. Bennett, about all that he'd been hiding

John C. Bennett convinced some women
That they could have sexual relations with him
As long as they told no one, kept it a secret
(Shh!)
Then there could be no sin in it
(Don't tell anyone!)
He lied to the women
Assuring them that Joseph Smith was fine with it
(Why would he be fine with that?)
He called it "spiritual wifery,"
And and had some friends join with him
(You a hoe, John!)

The women refused to believe
But John convinced them eventually
And as a fake physician he could perform
An abortion if called for

Now nobody likes John, no, nobody likes John
Ain't nobody love John, have you heard that

John C. Bennett was then investigated and excommunicated
(What did he expect?)
Instead of manifesting a spirit of repentance
He just sent threats and angry remarks

Lying to deceive, committing adultery
Degraded and unworthy, living abominably

Now nobody likes John, no, nobody likes John
Ain't nobody love John, have you heard that

John C. Bennett sent false accusations
Framing Joe Smith for murder
Instead of changing for the better
Bennett sought revenge so harshly unheard of

Now nobody likes John, He even threatened a mob
Instead of admitting he was wrong, Emma Smith knew all along
