Between the Lines

A broken old toy
That once could be trusted
To bring the boy joy
Now's gathering dust
And he's onto something new
He's dulling his thoughts with synthetic salvation
And all that it cost was his imagination
He's blacking out the blues

He wasted his youth chasing the truth
Now he's lost and confused
Running on fumes
With nowhere to go
So far away from home

Can you read between the lines?
Or are you scared of trying?
Scared of the horrors you might find?
There's more than meets the eye
But you'd rather go blind than look away from the light

An old polaroid
It's colours all faded
Depicting a boy
Expressing amazement and curiosity
Now he's a man
Weathered and jaded
And that photograph is hidden away
In a chest
Under lock and key

And as he grows older
With each passing day
The colours become just different shades of grey
And all his wonder drifts away

Can you read between the lines?
Or are you scared of trying?
Scared of the horrors you might find?
There's more than meets the eye
But you'd rather go blind than look away from the light

A broken old toy
That once could be trusted
To bring the boy joy
He blows off the dust
And he's onto something new

Read between the lines
Don't be scared of trying
You might like what you find
There's more than meets the eye
But the best way to go blind
Is to look toward the light
