Decolonize

Well I'm trying to decolonize my mind
This may take time but I promise I will start
To shine a light on the darkest corners of my heart
To unlearn the racist and oppressive ideologies
That are ingrained in the fabric of our society
We may not realise they are there but they are
But if we know where we are and where we're from
We might know how we all can be

I know, I see, I choose possibility

I'm guest here on Indigenous soil
And my brother you've been a gracious host
I'll endeavour to earn my keep
And my sister I'll do all that I can
To defend thee from misogyny
Which seems to be at the root of this destructive bent
To pillage the pillars of life itself
Moving forward is going to be messy
For there is a hunger that gnaws
But we are rich for there are lessons for us all

I know, I see, I choose possibility

Well I'm learning to be an ally now
And forward the voices of the elders and the land
And to appropriate is not appropriate
But there's a line that's fine and somewhere just right
We will meet in a field
And I can feel the sunshine on the faces now
And there will be time for our tears to dry
And moving forward into this bright future
I'm sure glad to have you by my side

I know, I see, I choose possibility

Well I'm trying to decolonize my mind
This may take time but I promise I will start
