Buddleia

I planted a small unassuming thought
As birds carry seeds from a garden
To another, it wasn't planned at all

But it spreads through me like buddleia
Taking root in the farthest corners
Of my body, my body's overgrown

There's an intruder here
There's an intruder here

And you're too good for this bed
The one made up of stress, self-hate, and regret
Go dig up the weeds that tighten your chest
They'll only steal your light, your love, and your breath
Oh my, oh my breath

It all starts with itchy capillaries
As if nettles exist in my bloodstream
For a moment, a moment's all it takes

There's an intruder here
There's an intruder here

And you're too good for this bed
The one made up of stress, self-hate, and regret
Go dig up the weeds that tighten your chest
They'll only steal your light, your love, and your breath

But weeds grow back all the time
Careful that they don't twist beneath your spine
Cut them at the roots, as soon as you can
You deserve to thrive and reclaim your life

But it spreads through me like buddleia
