Snowfall

Before I opened my eyes
I knew the snow had arrived
Silently in the darkness come
Gentle hexagons from heaven, sent
And nothing can be done

Before I opened my eyes
Everything I knew had been changed
Hidden or erased by an unseen hand
My every memory stolen from view
There's nothing left I understand

Beneath this phantom sun I dream of spring
The diamond dust and the tears in my eyes they sparkle and they shine
The song I had begun is nothing now but whispering
Echoing, my voice no longer mine
"Wait", you said, "it's only a matter of time"
But now the snowfall weighs so heavily
Weighs so heavily

And when I opened my eyes
For a moment, the light had left me blind
Then against the cobalt sky a white hart stood
Slowly turned his head as if to tell
This blackthorn winter is not your farewell
