Soliloquy

Another sleepless night
Of pointless pondering
Wondering what could have been
What could I have done differently
To savor this moment

The sweet aftertaste
Of bitter memories
That have long since been
Crushed and molded into shape

In the dark recesses of I

And in the end
Savoring is for those among us
With refined taste
And knowledge over matters

Of life and death and bliss, why not?
But I am but a humble pawn
In the universal chessboard
Having only taken a glimpse
Of the rulebook, alas for me

For I can no longer find comfort
In wine and song and merriment
But in the thought that this life
In all it's violence, in it's lack of splendor
I the antiquity of man
And that the future lies ahead
The future lies ahead
