For a Change

Though the stars are bright in the sky
The night is dark
I wonder what is bigger
My mind or my heart

It's almost 2 AM, I caught a cab back home
The window's open to invite the wind
It carries something good, the driver says
Wish I could feel it for a change

I'd like to stay in this moving sanctuary for the night
Until the Sleep removes this dust from me
The buzzing street lights sing connected disconnected melodies

Who knows if you can trust these lonely hearts who walk the streets like you
Who knows if you could make it all worth while
If you only knew how to speak Knew how to reach yourself

But times are changing and I see the meter running high
The longer l stay here, the more l drain
And soon the little that my eyes can see
Will narrow to a grain

Look out the window I can see a lonely bench calling my name
I used to know how to read the poems of empty streets I used to know how to speak
I used to know how to reach myself

The radio is on and so are conversations of small words
I wonder why we even bother anyway
So I get off before my street and walk the rest by foot
I'm hoping for the wind
I'm hoping for the wind
I'm hoping for a change
