Classic New York Night
Well, I've been all around this crazy world
Been to London, I been to France
Went to Waikiki with my best buddy and we did the hula dance
Spent a whole paycheck one night in Rome
It was well worth the dinero
I like to have some fun and shake my buns
When I'm in Rio de Janeiro
I stay out all damn night when I'm in Mexico City
Then I oversleep and miss my flight, mmm-mm what a pity
Went to Tokyo and dontcha know, I almost lost my life
Made it outta there by the skin of my teeth
After I kissed Godzilla's wife
On the Swedish dance floor they yelled for more
and they almost crowned me King
I like to ski half-drunk in the Old Swiss Alps
a yodel-ay-hee-hoo kinda thing
Yeah I love all these places, they're a traveler's delight
But I'd trade 'em all for New York City,
Just to have a classic New York night
Walkin' down the New York City street can make anyone feel alive
There's a tap in your toe and everybody you pass
will raise their hands to give a high five
There's a soundtrack to the city
Jazz in every pizza shop
And you'll find your groove in that New York funk
Ringin' out from every rooftop
We started our night at the Empire State Building
and had ourselves some beers
We met the mayor there and he shook our hands
and he led a round of cheers
He said "Go out and have some fun" and he gave us a buncha cash
Said "My apartment's always open, if you need a place to crash"
It was a classic New York night
We boogied on down to SoHo
then sang a song at Carnegie Hall
Met some poets in the East Village
for a jazzy beatnik bar crawl
Went to Harlem to see some Broadway plays
Arthur Miller, man, that guy can write
Then we published our review in the New York Times
made the front page the very same night
Took a hansom cab to Washington Square
Where they play buckets just like bongos
Went to the Sears Tower which is in New York I think
To be honest I really don't know
Saw the Globetrotters play the Yankees on the ice at M.S.G.
Bought twenty little statues
that looked exactly like the Statue of Liberty
Got sloshed and buzzed in Chinatown
ate pasta in Little Italy
Watched the New Year's ball drop in old Times Square
that thing can't get much more glittery
Filled the balloons for Thanksgiving
got in a St Paddy's Day fight
Then lit off some fireworks for Uncle Sam
it was a classic New York night
New York City
It's a hell of a town
New York City
The best town around
New York City
There's no turnin back and the taxi cabs drive on the subway tracks
We took the B train up to Brooklyn, baby
the Q train out to Queens
We took the J train to Billy Joel's apartment
watched the Jets on his new flat screen
Just one thing to remember, just one thing to recall
No trains go to Staten Island
No trains go there at all
No trains go to Staten Island
If you wanna go there, take my advice and give a taxi cab a call
And have a classic New York night
We stopped into CBGB's to watch some New York City bands
The Ramones rocked out and The Strokes were cool
Beyonce's husband shook our hands
But Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, man they blew us all away
The very best part was when they pointed at us
And they asked us if we wanted to play
We hopped onstage and took their gear
And started playing with all of our might
"Help Me Rhonda" with The Beach Boys
it was a classic New York night
Well, ya know it's true what they say,
This whole damn city is a melting pot
So many people and languages flyin' around
I feel like I'm at Epcot
Then all of a sudden I snapped my fingers
Had a beautiful idea
Let's hop on a jet to Disney World
I hear it's great this time of year
We stopped at our apartment where we pay a billion dollars rent
Went to JFK and La Guardia too, both named after presidents
Hopped a plane to Orlando, had a cocktail on the flight
It was a classic New York night
We whirled and twirled in Disney World
It was a classic New York
Mickey my man, we'll see you when we land
It was a classic New York
Had a wonderful day in FLA
What can I say, we like it that way
Tomorrow at ten we're gonna do it again
It was a classic New York night!
If you can make it there, you've really
Made it there
It was a classic New York night
Don't wait up for me, I'm goin' wild in the city
New York City, it's a hell of a damn city
It's that classic New York City
One of those crazy New York nights
God I love this town
God I love the Empire State Building
It's a hell of a town
A hell of a town
Lord, I love this town
It was a classic New York night
