A Storyteller by Trade

His job was to fix things that weren't right
Words he spoke made your opinions fight
Melodies were short and sweet
Those things were never quite neat

Said, "Why you here, you're famous now?"
He said, "Those crowds, they never made me wow"
Your stories never did fade
I'm just another storyteller by trade

Grew up in the toughest part of town
Parents were gone, my life a frown
Had to get my mind outta my head
Thoughts make me wind up dead

Decided to get my thoughts on a paper
The world, didn't know it would shape her
Songs anyone could've made
I'm just another storyteller by trade

Songs took me the whole world round
Found the truths no one else could've found
All plans will always backfire
What a grand skill to acquire

I had to get outta there
World made me lose my hair
Violence, war, guns, and death
Want peace? Don't hold your breath

Came here to get away from that
Went to school, but ain't no diplomat
Songs I cast 'em in the shade
I'm just another storyteller by trade
Storyteller by trade
