Emerald and Amethyst

And the walls are caving in
And the roof is falling down upon us now
Do you hear the trumpet's blast
The quick have gone and left us for the dead

Like an emerald in the sky
In an amethyst and alabaster storm
In her rapturous ascent
She said goodbye to soul-consuming flame

And they don't grieve for the lost and left behind
They don't grieve as we wither, as we die
Who needs wings? Who needs righteousness to fly
Let them fade away

These fingers touched her once
These lips have whispered promises of love
My eyes have seen her grace,
Her sterile faith, the glory of her sin

Take the emerald from my eyes
Take the amethyst and leave me destitute
If she deigned to condescend
To take me up, she'd have to watch me burn
