Nighthouse

We were sunken ships in the cushions of your couch
Reluctant to abandon that boarded lighthouse
The nights grew darker once our light bulb burned out
And now we're residing in a rundown nighthouse

And I stand by our bedroom door, not welcome anymore
You let me in then sleep on the floor
So, I curl up and pray in the bed of sin we made
Begging for a way, to break out of this haunted nighthouse

There's an ocean raging outside of closed blinds over my eyes
And they won't open when your lips are pressed against mine
Oh, I can't live in this somber room without sunlight
If you close the curtains I'll have my bags packed by night

And I stand by our bedroom door, not welcome anymore
You let me in then choose to ignore
How I curl up and pray in this bed so afraid
We'll never find a way to breakdown the walls of this house

Let me out of the dark, of the dark
He washes up to me like high tide onto shore
And ev'ry time he leaves I dry up thirsting for more
So, crash down over me, you can soak into my sandy pores
We'll never be at peace if you're at sea and I'm onshore

Tear down the bars and fix our broken light
A beacon of hope could save this haunted site
And guide us through the night, through the night

But I won't stay here with your weary ghost
On the nightstand, I left a note
And in the morning that ferry horn will blow
But as it wakes you, I'll be on the next boat
