I remember when I was young
I'd press my nose against the screen
And ask if you could play with me
We were a friendship machine

You'd drop what you were doing
And we'd be playing together in minutes
And we did this every day
You know our playtime had no limits

We did ring and run
And we did flashlight tag
And we would play computer games
Or sneak out dirty mags, yeah

Now we're both adults
We both have wives and kids
We both got wider butts
Now I see that time forbids

I ask you via text
When we'll get together next
You text me that we should
Catching up would be so good

But you never pick a date
You never pick a time
I'm guilty of this too
Such a seemingly meaningless line, line

I think we like the idea
More than making it real
It just makes us feel better
On this endless hamster wheel

You know, I hate to break this news
And it pains me to report
That the friendship that we built
It'll stay on life support
