I stopped to hear a birdy sing
Instead I didn't hear a thing
The fish swimming in the brook
It was not fit to cook
There's desperation in the rain
Mothers got those aches and pains

Stopped to smell the grass so green
Instead I didn't smell a thing
Dipped my toes into the sea
Left there wearing plastic feet
Butterflies with broken wings
Tossed around a swirling wind

But I smelled was gasoline

The worms will eat my flesh one day
But not the dreams within my brain
