The Coveted Cat

I saw a cat when I opened my front door
When he saw me he ran under the porch
What happens after he runs away?
I don't know, I didn't have time to stay
So instead I left a tray of cream
When I came back the bowl was licked clean

And it's Christmas time
In Newburgh
And there's a cat that lives outside
My front door
But I think he'd like it more
If he lived in my apartment
Nice and warm
Small and warm

When I woke up for work the next day
I went back down to fill his cream tray
I didn't see my new furry friend there
Not a trace. No, not even one single hair
But when I got to asking around
I learned that his home was across town

And it's Christmas time
In Newburgh
And my new furry friend
Has a home
But I think he'd like it more
If he lived in my apartment
Nice and warm
Small and warm

He'd dance around the Christmas tree
He'd have all the cream he'd ever need
And I know my heart would just be full
Of that warm stuff... what is it called? Oh yea, wool

And it's Christmas time
In Newburgh
And I wish my new friend
Lived with me
'Cause I think he'd like it more
If he lived in my apartment
Nice and warm
Small and warm
