Ode to Stone

I want to tell you the story of a friend
A very very old friend, that spent some good times with me
A friend I don't see as often as I used to
A friend that does not feel the same

I cannot visit him right now, he's kind of far
Although, in the time he could, he visited me a lot of times
And I did visit him... distance wasn't a problem

The problem is that people change
People can become totally unknown creatures
Can become somebody you've never met before
And at the same time, people you never want to meet

At this point of the story, you might think that
He changed in some sort of way I didn't like
And that's where the problem begins
That's where I think I messed it up

You do not expect yourself to have an irrational thought
And express it so much, just to realize you were wrong all along
You do not expect your plans to fail
You do not want you plans to fail
There are reasons you want stuff to happen
Either to be happy for the rest of your life
Or for people not to be happy for the rest of your life

That's what you feel when somebody else's plan
Doesn't go your way, doesn't count you in his happiness
That's what my friend thought of me
That's whatI made my friend think of me

And I couldn't see it at the time
Blinded by the situation
Blinded by the story I made in my head

Then, when you see all the mess that you've made
The first thought in your head is "that wasn't me"
"That was somebody else controlling every thingI say
Controlling every option I take"

Only to take a look back to the past
And see that you intentionally, and unintentionally
Broke somebody's confidence on you
Only to see that you became that totally unknown creature

And if you really try, you can be friends again
Can meet, can talk, can laugh
But you don't see the same eyes
You do not talk the same way
You do not laugh the same way
You do not feel the same way
You cannot feel the same way

And that's what I want my friend to see
