My Mother's Grave

Heaven is home Heaven is home
Walking with Jesus is sweet down here
But heaven is home

I visited my mother's grave in my mind last night
It was dark and damp and cold
I walked among the markers and read the epitaphs of old
Some died while they were young others to maturity had grow
Still others reached a ripe old age but all had gone to their long home
I felt a sense of loneliness of dread and of fear
To think of mom being buried in the darkness alone way out here

Then as I stood by her grave in my mind last night
Peace overwhelmed my soul as I realized she was not there for in Christ she had been made whole
And while her body had been lovingly buried there she was in heaven bright and fair
Twas I who was there with dreads and fears twas I who must yet bear the toil and pain of this vale of tears
So I left my mother's grave in my mind last night with rejoicing in my heart

For soon I too shall go that way and I am ready to depart
And when I enter my heavenly home it shall be my joy and delight to see my Savior face to face
And thank him for giving me light
Then I shall walk through those golden gates and search those mansions fair
Until I see the lovely face of my mother who will welcome me there
I'm glad I visited the place of death last night

It gave me a new outlook on life That God gives us time to receive His Son
And when we leave this place we too may be in that heavenly land and free from pain and strife
Perhaps your mother waits near the beautiful gate and longingly looks
To see your face as you enter the city of light but will it ever be
Will you again see her face or ever hear her voice
If so it's because you said yes to Christ only because you made that choice

Heaven is home Heaven is home
Walking with Jesus is sweet down here
But heaven is home
