Friday Night Amphibians

Surprise, my friend!
Come see, I've made the sweetest treat for you
Another round down, and now
We'll be queasy for an hour or two

If we had enough willpower
We'd leave a crumb of damage undone
But I don't want to wait 'til Sunday
To be a Friday night amphibian

Hide them in a box with string
Up on the ladder's highest rung
Feed them to the birds whose wings
Are stronger than our willpower
These two old, sad caecilians

Surprised? Well, no one's surprised
When a bird takes a blind-worm meal
And we two peasants are blind
So let us eat cake in the meantime

Until we see how vices
Become the wage and price of oblivion
Don't expect to wait 'til Sunday
To see the Friday night amphibians
