Breadcrumbs

In excess of time
I think of you often when
The absence of motion
Brings one of these days again
Well it's sure been a while
Since last that I spoke to you
So where have you been?
Have you met someone kinder?
Do you fix his collar too?

Am I so vain to think that you're leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for me?
Sending me straight back to the forest that I was so eager to leave
Every now and again, I will stand by the edge looking in

A public address
You've scattered to watch me find
It's nobody's fault
You're wanting to stay in mind
Well it's sure been a while
Since last that I spoke to you
So where have you been?
Have you met someone kinder?
Do you call him handsome too?

If a tree begins to tumble, will I hurry towards the sound?
Maybe send a search and rescue to be sure you're not around?
For if I am still and silent, and I never heed your call
Either way it's what you want cause I will stay to hear the fall

Am I so vain to think that you're leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for me?
Sending me straight back to the forest that I was so eager to leave
Every now and again, I will stand by the edge looking in
