Little Fish

Well, the water ain't too deep
But, a shark, you can't defeat
When you're a little fish, you can't make enemies

Young Johnny Anderton had robbed two banks before
He smiled and drew his .45 and yelled, "Get down on that floor!"
But as he turned to take the bags, a shotgun was produced
Johnny's soul left its earthly home and he never had a clue

You might think it was a citizen, reputable and brave
Who took out Johnny Anderton and sent him to his early grave
But it was old Jake Breckenridge, a more experienced man
Who painted the floor with Johnny's guts and took the money from the teller's hand

Jake headed for the border into old Mexico
He bought himself a little ranch, where the law could never go
But a bounty hunter made his way across the country line
And for old Jake, it was too late, everybody's got their time

Way up north, in the states, it was a legal kill
The bounty hunter's carbine hit its mark with speed and skill
But a Mexican judge named Julio had something else to say
He said, "Let's stretch this American's neck. In the desert wind he'll sway"

Julio sighed and cracked a grin at the justice he had served
He took off his robe and headed home for a rest he well deserved
But his old heart stopped in his chest in the middle of the night
I guess the Upstairs Man had a different plan, the judge never put up a fight

Well, the water ain't too deep
But, a shark, you can't defeat
When you're a little fish, you can't make enemies

Well, the water ain't too deep
But, a shark, you can't defeat
When you're a little fish, you can't make enemies
