Tangent
Hailing from the depths of somewhere past
Where time's stood still, and the sun sets fast
And folks drink til they've drunk their last drop
So they can forget where truth starts and farce stops
And when the cards flop out on the table
Lessons digest like an Aesop fable
While many digress and others enable
Leaders sell out like a sweetshop staple
Hooked on the sugar, slave to the nicotine
People's idea of success is all limousines and diamonds
Everyday there's new violence
Dodge the sickle gene, die by the siren
Catch the guillotine for breaking the silence
Live by the knife, fall to the social climbers
Who gives a crap about the climate
Cause we'll be long gone before we see the tide rise up
So dry your eyes don't cry for the amazon
Forget the rainforest, save yourself the embarrassment
Forget the oceans, you won't save the planet son
You don't have the palette to handle the damage done
Best to stick to middle management
Keep the thoughts to a minimum and actions inanimate
And don't play the devil's advocate
Unless you wanna be caged like all the animals
I remember dark days, now man are blasé
It was those who aren't from the manor aren't safe
Now it's Peckham arcades and matcha lattes mate
One day I'll leave this planet can't wait
Til then stuck listening to rock in a hard place
There's too many losses I can't take
My heart rate's like watching a car chase
My arms raised at faces my aunt made
She said "when you gonna find a viable career?"
I said "I'm here, I already hired all the gear
I already spent many nights fighting all the fear"
I thought let me write you were biting off your peers
More than you can chew, boring as the blues
Poor like beggars you're ignoring on the tube
Cause you think they're all addicts cause you saw it on the news
But reporter's on the shrooms, so it's awkward in the room
Like about to be dad when he's talking to a womb
It's awful to assume I'm doom and gloom
Used to watch the looney tunes now I notice all the racism
How soon he grew, while they permeate society
And through these youths
So they're taking lives cause it's like "who needs you?"
And I know that hate divides but I ain't paying mind
'cause I got bills and doing what's right ain't paying mine
Fine, guess I need to stay in line
Where time's stood still, and the sun sets fast
And folks drink til they've drunk their last drop
So they can forget where truth starts and farce stops
And when the cards flop out on the table
Lessons digest like an Aesop fable
