Queen of July

The summer sun was burning bright
I was coming off a couple hard weeks
I had money in my pocket to spend
A sun burn on my cheeks

In the bottom cupboard and on the highest shelf
I looked for a promise that might bring the heat
To set this little heart on fire
And bring these wandering eyes relief

I know this is true

A green eyed girl who had mined gold from dreams
On a rusted bike with a chain that squeaked
All I stole was just one look
I guess sometimes that's all it takes.

She had a smile that she couldn't shake
A dirty mouth and a pink bikini
It didn't matter what she wore that day
I had to know what was underneath

I know this is true

With the gossip of the gravel roads
We swam out to where the water got cold
I felt my heart start to come around
There was nowhere left to go

All the winds are blowing north
All the rivers are running dry
Now the road only takes me back
To the Queen of July

I know this is true
