Casey

Casey's sleeping in the dirt
Mud is caked onto her skirt
But the sun is beating down
So she needs the cool soft ground
Casey runs around the yard
Wishing that she could go far
Split this town and catch a train
Would we hear from her again

Now she's unlocked the back gate
Finally she has escaped
While her parents are asleep
She hits the concrete with her feet
Doesn't know where she will go
And suddenly she misses home
Stops when she reaches the tracks
Breathes in deep and then turns back

Casey knows that she's still fast
But maybe not like summers past
Runs from all that she's been told
But does she know she's getting old

Casey's yelling at the breeze
Scared her when it hit the trees
She's just just nervous from her dream
Hears a knock then screams and screams

Now she's unlocked the back gate
One last time she has escaped
Her parents follow down the street
Begging Casey come back please
Doesn't know where she will go
But she knows she can't go home
Over fences and through lawns
