A Satire for the World

I know of hope
It played with my mind, and left me the host
Most unsatisfied
And out of all these things that keep me awake
It's my fears that are keeping me safe
I'll keep on searching
I'll cover more ground
And out of all these cures,
There's not one that I've found
That repairs all the fragments that have broken away
It's my fears that are keeping me safe

With one last look at the dusk I whisper
"Never before have I seen a shape change swifter."
What a beautiful night to leave town
A crescendo of the blackest eyes
The devil's eyes

I'm haunted by the affliction
He? He waits in eager expectation
I have damned myself
I have damned myself

I'll keep on searching
I'll cover more ground,
And behind every door the truth is all I've found

The truth is, I can't give you a straight answer anymore
My heart's split in two and the devil
Is feeding me the remaining debris
In such high regard
I'd expect nothing less than to be cast aside
I can't tell myself I'm not sad anymore
So, I'll swallow my pride and I'll feast tonight

As my path unfolds and I am defeated
Livid with desire the process has completed
Eyes sunken blots, it happens tragically
Lost to a discordant melody
Don't want to freeze in time but the clock has stopped
I claw at the face my mind has forgot
Writhing from the floor to a contorted stance
I have become death, no longer a man
But of all sadness this was sad
A woman's arms try to shield
The head of a sleeping man
From the jaws of the final beast
