Banjo Blues

A banjo pulls on the heartstrings of life
When you feeling blue hits you like a knife
When life is against you the going's tough
Like a fast flowing river undercutting the bluff

You'd gone away when I visited your house
Came back here for time with a famous grouse
You continue to avoid me and shun my advances
Every time I'm there you go into trances

Feel as though I'm drifting from day to day
As time goes by I'm getting feet of clay
If there's nothing for us now or in the future
Tell me straight I'll repair the wound with a suture

I'm feeling blue on the bounds of depression
Tried everything I know to make a good impression
I'm a slave to love and sounds of the heart
Don't tell me I'm wrong and we belong apart

A banjo pulls at the heartstrings of life
When you're feeling blue hits you like a knife
When life is against you the going's tough
Like a fast flowing river undercutting the bluff
