Promenade

We were routinely surprised we had lighting in our eyes
and we dove across each and every finish line
Crumbling in a heap of pain yet rising up again and again
Not quite understanding what was happening at the time

And when you cut me off at the knees – just by a couple of degrees –
I survived, humbled, yet wanting more
Is it raining yet? Oh, the sun will not forget
This day is ours to explore

I should not have done that I was weak when I look back
but I felt so strong then and I want to feel it again
We have made it through twenty years or so
and with every one we learn some more
Might we carry on my dearest friend?

I will sneak in right beside you and involve myself like I do
and you might allow me the space for awhile
Then maybe you will realize that somewhere behind the smiles
is a man plugging along and doing his best in this short time

And it all starts pouring out when we let our guard down
When we behave will we feel it again the way when our love began?
And it all starts pouring out when we let our guard down

Blue yellow red green purple and orange
Release all your colors from the depths of storage
Bring the choicest palette along
Paint them well before they are gone

Can we have just one more touch
of a heat that turned out to be too much
Meet halfway there stop turn around when we cause each other harm?
We were both a little upset yet the sooner we forget
we will return to loving arms
Oh, is it raining yet? No, the sun will not forget
This day is ours to explore

And it all starts pouring out when we let our guard down
When we behave will we feel it again the way when our love began?

Behave . . . When we behave . . . Behave . . . When we behave . . .

And it all starts pouring out when we let our guard down
When we behave will we feel it again the way when our love began?

And it all starts pouring out when we let our guard down
When we behave will we feel it again the way when our love began?
