The Hopeful Sailor

It's always good
To be a sailor on a sunny day
But don't go out
With those clouds on their way to you
Unless it's your wish to die
Don't let that be your wish
You've got so much left to give
Don't you know
What that darkness really is?
Just an absence of love

Maybe all you needed
Was a second chance
A trusted voice
To tell you how it all must pass
And grow into a newer form
Another light, the one that you ignored
For far, far too long
Don't you know
You've always been where you belong
And it's the pain that helps you feel

Alive, just like that hopeful sailor
Who's on his way to the other side
It's true, he's just like you
With so many dreams
Right in front of him
As he sails on by

It's always there but rarely understood dear
That sacred vow, forever in our eyes
There will be time for all our misadventures
Yet there it goes, another lonely year
And it's been far, far too long
Since you were near enough
That I could hear your tone
And it's your love that helps me feel

Alive, just like that hopeful sailor
Who's on his way to the other side
It's true, he's just like you
With so many dreams
Right in front of him
As he sails on by
