Oven Baked Steak

A beer stein whizzed past us, and crashed to the pavement
As we entered the Ox Yoke Inn Restaurant
This might have been normal for some places we've been to
But in Amana, Iowa it surely was not
We were nearly bowled over by a gray headed couple
Dressed with style yet in a bellicose state
Some would heed this a warning to go seek dinner elsewhere
But we were hungry and the hour was late

The place got all quiet as the waiter called us forward
A bespectacled kid with the ginger red hair
Good evening, How you doin'" I greeted the waiter
Then I asked him the question that most wouldn't dare
That last couple just leaving seemed uncommonly angry
And I realize that it's none of my business
But it's not often that an old gal, all dressed up for Sunday
Is the author of something malicious

He said We were all out of oven baked steak
Yet they demanded the oven baked steak
Said they'd driven for hours and had plans to devour
A beer and our famous baked steak
When I said we'd run out
They cursed like all get out
And they left and they took their beers with 'em
Those steins cost ten bucks to replace 'em

The fire in his eyes made it abundantly clear
That the boy wasn't done with his venting
He said "Golly jeeze, you know steaks don't grow on trees
Is not like we can go out back, and pick one
With a sigh he looked up, with his pen in his hand
And asked what we wanted to order
We hadn't looked at the menus but she went with a salad
And I asked maybe get me a burger

We didn't order the oven baked steak
Because they were all out of oven baked steak.
All that remains is the question that still was unanswered
What the hell (Heck) is an oven baked steak
I've had them fried in a pan
Or charred on a grill
But I've never had one baked in an oven
But after hearing all that, I sure want one
