Idols

I don't believe in Idols anymore
I'm old enough to have seen their altars crumble
I don't see it the way I did back then
I'd be ashamed
But I was caught up in revival

They called upon the wrath of god
To settle a damn petty dispute
Now I don't believe they'd ever get their way
But if they did, I don't think god had anything to do with it

I don't know what happens after this
nor do they, but they will sell you on a floor plan
Follow the exit signs it's all so very clear
Even as the smoke and fire, they heat up all around you

They called upon the wrath of god
To settle a damn petty dispute
But I don't believe they'd ever get their way
But if they did, I don't think god had anything to do with it

Seems like every one we ever looked up to
Sooner or later had us lookin' down
We learned long ago to not make idols out of gold
But we're still learning' not to make them out of men

And I don't carry a cross anymore
Someone else said they lifted that burden
It's funny how I say that in the end love will truly win
And how they say I will truly burn for it

They called upon the wrath of god
To settle a damn petty dispute
I don't believe they'd ever get their way
But if they did, I don't think god had anything to do with it

It's hard to believe they'd ever get their
But if they did, I sure hope god had nothin' to do with it
