Thankful

People look at me like I'm an alien
All because of the color of my skin
Whether you're Black, White, Asian, or Rican
All that matters is what lies within
When did race become such a problem
Character should be the only model
But I refuse to conform to the column
May not be at the top but we're not at the bottom

Our people getting placed in a bubble
Judging by color, our children getting troubled
But we need to see through the dividend
To make a way for the not-so-distant end
I hold my stance, standing flatfooted
With steadfast will and you know I'm not moving
When society tries to label us as lesser
We will rise above the pressure and show that we are better

Cuz I'm thankful and grateful
Blessed with this melanin
Said I'm proud and I'm loud
Standing up for who I am
And nothing can stop me from the joy that comes with it
Regardless of the skin I'm in, I'm still a human
And we can detest all the things that test us
But we must come together for a cause greater than us

Cuz I'm thankful and grateful
Blessed with this melanin
Said I'm proud and I'm loud
Standing up for who I am
We can't fight hate with hate because there's no room for it
If you're fighting for a cause then you gotta stand for it
Tryna place blame, unity will deplore it
Cuz we have to move forward with togetherness and restore it

Thankful for my color
Thankful for my brother
Thankful for my sister
Come on and sing it with us

Thankful for my color
Thankful for my brother
Thankful for my sister
Come on and sing it with us
Yeah, oh oh
Yeah, oh oh
Yeah, oh oh
Yeah, oh oh, yeah

Cuz I'm thankful and grateful
Blessed with this melanin
Said I'm proud and I'm loud
Standing up for who I am, oh
