The Greyest of Days
On the greyest of days
I was going the way
Of the biggest gathering's of folk
Why they came to this place
I could not say
The building grabbed the sky by the throat
On a vacant estate
Edges blended away
It was the largest home you could see
The walls grey as the sky
Oft a story would fly
But today there'd be just one indeed
A number filled up the halls
Out of windows, of doors
All a bottle and a song to entice
As I approached the home
I had come not alone
The Earth-Angel on the ends of my eyes
A dream in a dream
She was all I had seen
I began to get drunk with my eyes
With her brown jacket on
And the calm of the storm
The world dulled as she bathed in white
She pressed on a head
Leaving me watch her tread
And I followed her off with my eye
I had sipped no hard drink
Yet she had made me sink
Then someone appeared at my side
She had come from the rest
Just to put me to test
On her mind was what was on mine
"Has your favour, does she?"
She asked pointedly
I affirmed then she put out her line
"What? Your intentions would be?"
"What do you ask of me?"
"Do you really care how she feels?"
"What does the ring say?"
"Yes! What does the ring say?"
"I will be her man in steel"
She had seen no disguise
Knew I uttered no lies
And returned from whence that she came
I returned to the dream
The Earth-Angel was seen
She appeared and thought of her name
Unaware of her size
She took me by the eyes
And led me away into sleep
Then the home slipped away
And all faded to grey
Then to black, there the vision completes
I was going the way
Of the biggest gathering's of folk
Why they came to this place
I could not say
The building grabbed the sky by the throat
On a vacant estate
Edges blended away
It was the largest home you could see
