Antikythera

I've been excavating myself
I've spent eons in the dark
And I'm hauling up parts of my Antikythera heart
Wondering how it works
And leaving behind these piles of free dirt

Stumbling upon a patchwork mosaic
Filling in these blank spaces archaic
Trying to suss out
What it all could be about
Sifting through the obsidian and chert
Stake a sign that reads 'free dirt'

Free dirt
Come on and get my
Free dirt

I'm beginning to see just how
Life works out above ground
My gears start spinning
The underpinning fabled part
Of my long lost heart

Keeps the scholars engaged
Taking to the question like a pig to a trough
Just keep your eyes on this page
And dust me off

Posted up in this posh little corner of a Greek museum
Familiar faces, but I don't know where I've seen them
And the jolting start of my Antikythera heart
Gets the memories flowing, they comes in spurts
And all I'm offering is free dirt

We can lie, we can cheat, we can do as we please
With each day that passes I'm asking if it don't really bother me
I'm just cogs in a box telling phases of the moon
I'm just a misanthropic extrovert
And I'm slinging this free dirt

Free dirt
Come on and get my
Free dirt

I'm beginning to see just how
Life works out above ground
The disease I'm kicking
To get me clicking, I'm a work of art
Antikythera heart

Don't make so so sorry
Don't make me forget or my defenses soft
Either leave me where you found me
Or dust me off
