Leviathan

Leviathan waits in its flooded keep
To fell the humans that disturb its prize
Its treasure lights up the walls of the cove
Few truly know what dwells inside
Many armies have sailed from distant lands
Little have returned from where the beast dwells
Its home decorated in broken skulls
Survivors speak of the sight as sea's hell

In a far off land a plan begins to form
Flank the beast within, rob it of its score
Black sails rise over frigates built to last
Destination set the fleet begins its path

Dark convoy of a robed northern king
Sails into the depths, in the eye of the storm
Approaching its lair, the ships prepare their guns
Set on their mission, the battle may commence
Inside leviathan rests on top its mound
Disturbed, he wakes to the sound of intruders
The ghastly defender bursts forth from the cove
At the mouth of the wild fortress

Decks shatter and masts descend
Tentacles constrict and destroy their frames
Leviathan swallows the drowning men
As harpoons pierce his rigid skin
Wreckage litters the surface of the sea
Leviathan retreats to nurse its wounds
The vessels that remain drop their anchors
To explore the corridors of their new crown jewel
Leviathan

Men search through the monsters home to find his treasure
The halls lined with skulls of their predecessors
Soon they realize their take is all but a lie
Leviathan has lured them all into his den
Try to flee, their numbers are diminished
No escape, again the mortals face leviathan
Leviathan reigns once more
