The Boy Beneath

Many miles underneath the city
In a cave so dark and gritty
You can find a boy who's hiding from the sunshine
He was mocked and was mistreated
So the lonely boy retreated
Down into a place where he could spend all his time

Fortress of solitude
Cold was his attitude
Only wanting to be left alone
Thoughts of humanity felt like insanity
When compared with his peaceful home

But in his heart he knew
This life would never do
Never stepping out into the light
All we can do for him
Offer encouragement
Say it's all right

So the boy beneath came forward
He was nervous and was unsure
After all, the world has treated him unkindly
Were they really caring people?
Or were all their worlds deceitful?
He just didn't know if he could trust them blindly

Still he was longing for life with a little more
Everyone needs a human touch
Even the quiet ones down hidden from the sun
Still need warm affection just as much

This boy then made his way
Into the light
