Garbage Day
I put the garbage in the bin
But the top got blown off in the wind
Now when it rains, it falls right in
And soaks the garbage in the bin
I put the bin out on the street
Beneath the dying locust tree
I pay an honest monthly fee
And a man picks up my trash for me
The garbage truck shudders and shakes
It squeals out softly as it brakes
And to this day I am amazed
At how much trash a truck can take
The man is staring at the ground
His bright green vest is painted brown
He lifts my bin turned upside down
I watch the trash seep slowly out
I think it's time to buy a lid

I keep in case I forget
The important atoms in the abyss
