If I looked right through you
And out the other side
If I saw the clockwork ticking
How you worked inside

That the world was bigger outside
So I freed you helped you fly
And watched you over the horizon

Now my world's all twilight
Neon memories
I'm stuck here in the darkness
And my lights are all just dreams
I know I helped to paint your world
In its technicolour glow
But if I'd kept the cage door shut
Then you never would have known
You never would have flown
If I'd locked you in and kept you here
Stolen your best years
And that would have saved my fears

Now you can look right through me
Straight back through the years
Clockwork showing oh it's slowing
With all the rust on the gears
I hope you've come to know me
Understand that what I did
Gave me bitter consolation
