Muddy River

The last Friday in April was the day I heard the crack
And when it all came spillin down to the city we knew there was no goin back
The levee walls exploded, ordered by the guard
And sent that river flowin down the hills of west Bernard

I saw the water rising, rushing down the street
It covered all the roads and the sidewalk and it flowed, fillin right up to my feet
I ran to find my mama, knew we had to get gone
We gotta pack up and leave ma, you wont even believe ma, they blew it at Caernarvon

And now that old river gonna be flowin on by
That muddy old river gonna be flowin on by
On by
Flowin on by
Bye bye

On evac I stopped and stared
Goodbye to what I had known as my ma and I's home as we headed north toward the Chi
And to this very day I sing the muddy river blues
Thinkin back the home washed away in the storm and when that rich man lit the fuse

When that muddy old river came flowin on by
That muddy old river came flowin on by
Came flowin on by
That muddy old river came flowin on by
On by
Flowin on by
On by

Bye bye
